Magic in Mistletoe
The JK Rowling of Christmas Novels
Seriously - it’s not hard to figure out where they drew some inspiration from.
Harrington is the author of the globally-beloved Christmas novels set in his real-life small town, Mistletoe, which feature many of this childhood friends and himself. But the combination of his parents’ death and rampant consumerism tied to his books has turned him into a Scrooge-like recluse. After an ill-thought social media post slamming the consumerist nature of Christmas, damage control is deemed necessary.
Enter April, the publishing house’s publicist, sent to ensure Harrington makes nice with the town and his readership.
Over the course of the next few days, April and Harrington grow close as she forces him to engage with the town and all the Christmas events that he wrote about but had since turned his back on, and he slowly remembers what inspired his stories in the first place.
This was a decent watch and actually felt like there was decent character development and didn’t feel rushed.
Classic Christmas movie tropes:
Town with a Christmassy name (Mistletoe)
Scrooge who discovers the meaning of Christmas
Christmas tree farm
Quaint small town inn
