The Santa Summit

Cool concept, poor execution.

Conceptually, I really like this idea. It’s basically a Santa-themed Christmas pub crawl but like, Hallmark-ified.

Alllllll the Santas, moving from bar to bar, etc. drinking hot chocolate (cocoa, for you Americans) and cider along the way. Jordin and Liam meet early on in the day and subsequently spend the rest of the day/movie trying to find each other, before a final third act coincidence that (conveniently) ties it all back together.

I honestly think this idea could have some legs if left to a studio other than Hallmark, but alas, here we are.

There’s honestly a bit of everything here:

  • Christmas bull riding

  • Christmas line dancing

  • Christmas carol karaoke

  • Silent disco

  • Hallstar cameo - Niall Matter

Classic Christmas movie tropes:

  • All. The. Santas.

  • Filmed in Canada (Winnipeg, MB)

  • Sledding

  • GT racing (this is 100% a Christmas tradition if you ask my husband)

  • Tree lighting

SCORE: 5/10

It’s time for the annual Santa Summit, in which revelers put on Santa suits and hop around designated locations in town to eat, drink, and be merry. Three best friends decide to go together: Jordin, a recently dumped art teacher looking to cut loose; Ava, a shy woman hoping to run into her crush; and Stella, a Christmas cynic with no interest in the Santa Summit whatsoever. At the start of the night, Jordin meets and bonds with Liam, but doesn’t get his name before getting separated and lost in a sea of Santas. As the night progresses and hijinks ensue, amidst the chaos, celebration, and a sea of Santas, they all find what they’re looking for: Christmas spirit, potential romance, and a strengthened bond of friendship. Starring Hunter King and Benjamin Hollingsworth.
