A Merry Scottish Christmas
Gretchen Weiners Lacey “Eternal Youth” Chabert scores the international one… again
There was Christmas in Rome, then Christmas at Castle Hart (CACH), and now we’re back across the pond with Lacey again. And because Hallmark LOVES to reunite former co-stars from 90s-era TV (e.g., You, Me & the Christmas Trees), this year we get a Party of Five reunion with Scott Wolf joining the mix.
Side note: I never watched Po5 when it was on - is it worth bingeing now?
Just like CACH, we get some castle porn from the British Isles as the backdrop for a family drama: Lindsay (Chabert) and Brad (Wolf) are summoned to Scotland for Christmas with their mother, Jo, who never told her children about the family peerage. That’s right - we’ve got a secret royalty nobility movie!
I might need to brush up on my nobility knowledge though, because I’m not entirely sure how the Duke dies, but his birthright doesn’t get transferred to his surviving sister, but somehow her son can just… choose to become the Duke? I might be overthinking this…
And don’t you worry, OF COURSE there was also a lil’ romance in the highlands, if you know what I mean… In this case, in the form of a handsome Scottish estate manager.
Overall enjoyable and a solid addition to the Hallmark Christmas oeuvre.
Classic (?) Scottish Christmas movie tropes:
Christmas carols played on the bagpipes
Scottish castle
Secret nobility
Carriage rides
Scotch tasting
Custom hot chocolate
“Turn the car around!” moment - straight outta The Holiday
