Navigating Christmas

Christmas in a lighthouse

Melanie is a professionally successful single mom who makes a last-minute decision to spend Christmas in a rented lighthouse with her surly teenage son who’s been blown off by his dad.

At a glance, fine, this one hits a lot of the standard tropes:

  • Big city gal calls for small town, flannel wearing dude

  • Community Christmas competition. Yes, plural.

  • Lots of decorating scenes - town square, lighthouse, etc.

  • Ugly Christmas sweaters

  • Need to “save” something, in this case the aforementioned lighthouse

But… it was only ok. Nothing to set this one apart from the rest this season. Definitely not as goofy as some of them, but totally middle of the road.

Also, Hallmark has never met a sailboat or maritime Christmas scene that it didn’t love, so a lighthouse, at Christmas, with boats galore… Hallmark heaven. I suspect this might actually have more to do with Vancouver filming locations than anything else. Discuss.

You’ll like this if…

You eat fish at Christmas and / or have a “thing” for lighthouses.

SCORE: 5/10
