Christmas Island
Come From Away (lite): Christmas Edition
Kate is a private jet pilot on her first trip with a wealthy family, but poor weather leads to an emergency landing in Nova Scotia. Oliver (Hallstar Andrew Walker) is a local air traffic controller whose family welcomes the visitors with open doors.
Actually takes place in Nova Scotia, not “New England” Nova Scotia. Kudos to the peeps in Gander for setting the standard in welcoming others to small Canadian communities. And consequently there’s some good NS touristy shots around Lunenberg, Peggy’s Cove and the like.
Anyway, it’s a story about making the most out of a less than ideal situation and enjoying small pleasures at Christmas. Cutesy, but not as twee as a lot of Hallmark fare. And kissing! Before the final scene! Scandalous! Lol
And I leave you with this as a final sell:
Stars Hollow-style town meeting #IYKYK
Lobsters wearing Santa hats
Classic Christmas movie tropes:
Griswold-esque house
Baking together
Santa hats abound
Visits with Santa
Christmas tree lighting
You’ll like this if…
You like semi-realistic small town Christmas movies with a light plot that doesn’t make you gag. Or you like Andrew Walker. He is a Hallstar for a reason, after all.
SCORE: 7/10
