A Fabled Holiday
W - the actual - F
This movie should come with a disclaimer: best watched while heavily under the influence of mind-altering substances. Not that it would make much more sense, but like… maybe your mind could make similar leaps?
First, a few general gripes:
Weird voiceovers reading from a book. That should have been my first warning.
Grown, adult woman who talks and dresses like she’s in elementary school. I mean, I know Carrie Bradshaw went through her flower pin thing, but a hair bow like the ones I put on my toddlers is… not something an adult woman chooses to wear
Ugh. It gets worse. She wears pigtails.
Sound is way off. Like they recorded voiceovers for much of the dialogue and the sound mixing was… not there
The premise is that some strangers (and childhood friends! Shocker!) find themselves trapped in the town of Wunderbrook (second warning) where the locals manipulate their guests who are at personal low points in their lives into restoring their love? Faith? That part wasn’t clear. Something about how the town is actually the town from a “classic” Christmas storybook, complete with court jesters, King & Queen, Evil Witch, in modern clothing. Someone watched Once Upon A Time a few too many times…And if you think it sounds like the locals take advantage of strangers’ troubles, you would be correct.
Listen, I’m not against the idea of turning a classic Christmas book into a movie (ahem, see ALL the versions of A Christmas Carol), but this one was bonkers.
Wow. Just wow. And WTF.
SCORE: 1/10
