Our Italian Christmas Memories

Is this the Hallmark version of The Family Stone? Yes. Is it worth your time? Also yes!

True confession time - the title of this movie was almost enough to turn me off of watching it entirely. The trailers were similarly a little cringey.

BUT, what those trailers masked was a good family Christmas drama.

The romance element was unnecessary given each of the 3 children had their own storyline in addition to their grandfather’s plight.

Did a good job of balancing the storylines and not feeling rushed or too underdeveloped.

  • Kids dealing with an ageing grandparent

  • LGBTQ couple expecting a child (things you won’t see on that “other” network that’s frequently in the news these days…)

  • Allegory about maintaining family traditions & stories

  • Doesn’t shy away from the struggle and heartbreak of mental decline and impact on the affected and the family support system

  • Centred around Christmas and family connectiveness

  • And yes, a straight rip off of The Family Stone with the gift of a frame photo of a dearly departed family member (plus her sugo recipe)

Pleasantly surprised by this one!

SCORE: 7/10
