The Royal Nanny

Mary Poppins - Sound of Music - James Bond - Hallmark: The epic mashup you didn’t know you (don’t) need.

When an MI5 agent goes undercover as a nanny for the Royal family, the usual Hallmark antics ensue.

Other than this taking place at Christmas, and a subplot about Christmas charity, there really isn’t much “Christmas cheer” or the usual tropes in this movie.

I read a decent amount of celeb gossip rags, and I have never seen real-life nanny Maria with a carpet bag and umbrella. That is obviously a Mary Poppins thing - is that what Americans think all British nannies are like? Or did the movie nanny just want to emulate MP?

Not to stop at one classic story, there is also a not-at-all-subtle nod to The Sound of Music, with the nanny falling for the man of the house (who is a total jerk to her for the first half of the movie), with some assistance from the Princess (though not an affair/cheating situation in this case).

SCORE: 3/10
