Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater

Never is a strong word…

  • Maybe, “never kids a man who makes such a lazy attempt at a tacky Christmas sweater” is more appropriate.

  • Maggie (Ashley Williams) makes a MUCH better effort, rocking a Christmas-light patterned dressed accessorized with a necklace of flashing lights. As someone who owns and wears multiple such necklaces, and wears them!, I applaud this effort.

  • Honestly, through the first act of this movie Lucas (Niall Matter) is the WORST. Ok fine, she nailed him with a Christmas tree and then he had to spend the holidays in her guest house, but still. Perhaps a little kindness to the recently-divorced mom who is spending her first Christmas apart from her daughter wouldn’t be out of line.

  • It would have been enough to have them work together to plan a party, but then there was a whole mini-sub plot about getting the active military parents of local kids to “video call” their kids, but which was actually just pre-recorded videos, so I’m not sure what was so hard to manage about that logistically, but I guess it’s hard to fill 90 minutes of film sometimes…

Wait! Why do I recognize that person?

  • Niall Matter is an almost-Hallstar. And when I started looking into him, I found out he’s from Edmonton (shoutout to my hometown), so now I feel a little bad about criticizing his movie. Roger Ebert I am not…

  • Ashley Williams is another Hallstar in the making, though you might recognize her from her 15-episode arc in How I Met Your Mother back in the day.

SCORE: 4/10
