When I Think of Christmas
A cautionary tale about toxic exes.
I’m not sure that’s what Hallmark was going for with this one, but that’s absolutely what they got.
When they were in high school Sara and Josh were young and in love and played in a band together. But come graduation time Sara chose to go to YALE on a SCHOLARSHIP instead of… hanging around their small town and trying to make it as a musician. Her only sin as far as I’m concerned is that she didn’t tell him she was leaving. And really, even if she had, the Turkey Drop is a thing. It was only a matter of time.
Fast forward a decade or so. Sara is a successful lawyer and Josh is… still a struggling musician now based in Nashville. They’re back in town so Sara can help her long-widowed mom move and Josh is “helping out his uncle at the real estate office” (read: earning some money because the music thing just isn’t working for him).
Despite a decade or more of water under the proverbial bridge, Josh is SUCH A JERK to her. Still holding it against her that she chose an education over him. In the words of Oda Mae Brown, “you in danger, girl.”
Despite all the red flags, somehow they rekindle their relationship because she can “work from anywhere,” while he… continues to work on maybe one day hitting the big time. There’s also something about a song her deceased dad wrote and her mom sings at the big Christmas show in front of her new paramour.
Sara, girlfriend, you’re a lawyer… just promise me you’ll write yourself a damn good pre-nup.
SCORE: 2/10
