The Christmas Break

DINKS in Ireland

So… this wasn’t really a Christmas movie. Not sure how it even got onto the W schedule to begin with (it didn’t air in the US), as it was produced by FOX in 2023. Most definitely falls into that category of “movies that happen to take place at Christmastime but are not decidedly festive.”

This is basically the made-for-TV equivalent of Four Christmases in many ways. Caroline is an Irish transplant living in Chicago with her husband, Jack, both contentedly childless with their dual incomes… until they decide to spend Christmas in Ireland with her stereotypically large Irish family. Kid-driven chaos surrounds them, causing Jack to realize that he does want kids, chaos and all, while Caroline remains against the idea right until a positive pregnancy test challenges her thinking.

Compounding her questioning of her lifepath, Caroline’s family pub is poised for sale, with decades of village tradition about to die along with it.

So what’s a US-based Marketing Executive to do, but quit her swanky job in Chicago to take over the family pub in an attempt to secure its future for another few decades, and hopefully convince her husband to come along for the ride.

This one was just kinds blah for me. Ho hum, onto the next we go…

You’ll like this if…

You enjoy a bit of lowkey slapstick, physical comedy in the form of Irish football and kids run amok.
