A Very Merry Bridesmaid

A Christmas Birthday Wedding

  • Emily Osment stars as Leah, a woman who is turning 30 (a BIG deal we’re told) on Christmas Eve, which is also the date of her brother’s wedding.

    • So how do we feel about this? I mean, I remember planning my wedding and being careful to try and avoid a family birthday or existing anniversary that fell on the same day, and that was just a summer day, never mind a major holiday, and never mind it also falling on a “milestone” birthday.

    • Leah is a lot more chill about this than I would be… “birthdays and Christmas Eve happen every year, weddings are once in a lifetime…hopefully!”

    • But… a Christmas-themed wedding could be spectacular! However, there was a distinct lack of capes as outerwear. Missed opportunity there.

  • Leah’s besties are a lesbian couple with children, so once again Hallmark doing well with representation (for this genre, anyway).

  • What is with men in movies who think it’s totally cool to just go and buy houses without talking to their fiancees about it? In what universe is that a good idea? My current house wishlist includes a living room with a vaulted ceiling tall enough that I can put up a 12-foot tree, so if my husband showed up with anything less than a 14'-foot ceiling would be a pass.

  • Ugly Christmas Sweater themed bachelor party - YES!

  • Spoiler alert: they don’t forget about her birthday

Hap-Hap-Happiest Scene:

  • Major house envy in this movie. Damn I love a nice house all decked out for Christmas, and I would really love a nice outdoor seating area with a fire, surrounded by twinkling lights.

Wait! Why do I recognize that person?

  • Emily Osment seen earlier this viewing season in Christmas Wonderland (a 3/10 dud), so this was a marked improvement.

SCORE: 7/10
